Daily Power #46

Daily Power #46

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. (Heb. 10:24)

It’s not unusual to get together with friends and hear, “Hey, let’s go see the new movie that just came out!” or, “When’s our next potluck dinner?” or, “Let’s get tickets to the big game next weekend.” We don’t have trouble coming up with ideas for how to have fun and enjoy being with our friends.

But when it comes to serving others as the body of Christ, we seem to struggle with fresh ways to serve and meet the needs of those around us. I mean, when was the last time you heard someone say, “Let’s host a themed meal for the homeless,” or, “Come over to my place this Saturday—my elderly neighbor needs a new roof?”

I understand how hard it can be just to get together, let alone organize a time when you can all serve together. But the Bible tells us it’s important for us to meet together and to practice “good deeds” for those in need around us. There’s something about serving together that unites our hearts in a unique way, a way that reflects the heart of God to those we’re serving.

It’s what we are called to do—come together to demonstrate God’s love.

Power Lift

Dear Father, I know it’s good to fellowship with other believers. But please keep our hearts focused on serving those around us more than just having short-term fun. I know we can experience longer-lasting joy when we unite in a common goal empowered by your love.
