Why is it so important to try to defeat sin in my life?

Psalm 14:3

It’s a nasty feeling to bite into an apple that looks good on the outside only to find that it’s rotten on the inside. You spit it out because it repulses you. Sin works the same way. It can rot you from the inside, even if you look good on the outside. If left unchecked, sin can fester until it repulses God as well as other people when they see what’s really inside you. A rotten apple can’t be made whole again, but you can be. When you become a believer, a miraculous transformation takes place by the power of God. But Satan fights to keep you from believing that you’ve been truly transformed. You cannot afford to lose this battle or you will never live effectively for God. But you cannot fight Satan alone. You must use the armor God has given you to engage in this spiritual warfare. You must resist and fight against Satan and his forces of evil. Their goal is to conquer your heart and turn you against God. So you must fight with every bit of your strength and every available weapon God provides for you. You cannot totally defeat Satan while you live on this earth, but you can resist him and win the everyday battles against him. Remember that you will be victorious both in this life and in eternity.

DIVINE PROMISE

The Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.
