Depression

Depression

MY QUESTION for GOD

Does feeling depressed mean something is wrong with my faith?

A MOMENT with GOD

I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!

John 15:11

Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful.

Proverbs 16:20

God does not regard depression as sin, nor does he take it lightly. Rather, he responds with great tenderness, understanding, and compassion to those who suffer the darkness of depression. When you are depressed, the Bible helps you recognize the lies of Satan, the temptations that might come your way, and the ways the devil fuels your depression by distracting you from God’s promises and power. As you become more aware of these things, your perspective will begin to change. Develop the habit of seeking God and counting on his Word to be true; you will discover the encouragement you need.

Samson was now very thirsty, and he cried out to the Lord, “You have accomplished this great victory. . . . Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of these pagans?”

Judges 15:18

Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. . . . He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die.

1 Kings 19:3-4

Even for the people of God, depression can follow great achievement or spiritual victory. After you experience such a high, it seems the only direction to go is down. If you recognize this, you won’t be so surprised when you feel low after feeling on top of the world. This is normal. But beware of the tendency to neglect God after a spiritual victory. Instead, you should fill your heart and mind with God’s Word, which will encourage you with God’s love and care and keep you from sinking too low into depression.

DIVINE PROMISE

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. Psalm 23:4
