Romance
My Question for God
How can I keep romance alive in my marriage?
A Moment with God
Come, my love, let us go out to the fields and spend the night among the wildflowers. Let us get up early and go to the vineyards to see if the grapevines have budded, if the blossoms have opened, and if the pomegranates have bloomed. There I will give you my love.
Song of Songs 7:11-12
Place me like a seal over your heart. . . . For love is as strong as death.
Song of Songs 8:6
Spontaneity and variety are key ingredients of romance. Dull routine destroys romance. So surprise your husband by doing something unexpected and spontaneous. Take a weekend just for the two of you. Send flowers. Stick a love note on the bathroom mirror. Call him just to tell him you love him. When you were dating, you probably did those things. Start doing them again, and watch romance bloom again.
Song of Songs is a book about the romantic love of husbands and wives. True, romantic, marital love is exclusive and permanent, sealing your heart in faithfulness to your mate. Romantic feelings come through giving love, not by focusing on receiving love. Love is an offering of yourself rather than a claim of how someone else should treat you. Just as God pursues you with his unconditional love, romance is the art of pursuing your mate with that same unconditional love.
Divine Promise
I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
John 13:34
