A Moment with God

Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.

Many godly character traits—such as hard work, integrity, commitment, service, and planning—often bring material success when you apply them.

The LORD was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the LORD was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did.

Genesis 39:2-3

The LORD blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

Job 42:12

The Scriptures contain frequent references to God’s material blessings for his people. God allows his people to sometimes enjoy material blessings, but he urges them never to forget the One who gave them. It is always a bad investment to sacrifice spiritual prosperity for the sake of gaining worldly wealth.

The LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

God’s standards differ greatly from our own. He measures success not by prestige, possessions, or power, but by our motives, devotion, and commitment to him.
