Victory
Victory
My Question for God
How do I experience victory in my life?
A Moment with God
King Sihon declared war on us and mobilized his forces at Jahaz. But the LORD our God handed him over to us. . . . The LORD our God also helped us conquer Aroer . . . and the whole area as far as Gilead. . . . Next we turned and headed for the land of Bashan, where King Og and his entire army attacked us at Edrei. But the LORD told me, “Do not be afraid of him, for I have given you victory over Og and his entire army.”
Deuteronomy 2:32-33, 36; 3:1-2
With God’s help, the Israelites experienced victory after victory as they marched toward the Promised Land. Our greatest victory, which has been won by Christ, is receiving God’s gift of salvation (see 1 John 5:4). But daily we need victory over the strongholds of sin that threaten our ability to live effectively for God and be a victorious example to others. To experience victory in the Christian life, we must be willing to commit ourselves to vigorous spiritual training and preparation (see Ephesians 6:10-18). This starts with constant prayer and consistently reading God’s Word and obeying it. In these verses we see that when God was actively invited to be part of the people’s lives, and when the people consistently tried to obey God’s Word, they experienced victory. Too often we get so busy that we neglect spending time with God. He is no longer top priority. When we put God first, through prayer and the study of his Word, we will experience victory over our fears, and over Satan’s tactics that seek to derail our relationship with God and with those we love.
