Mercy Paid Forward
Lord, how have you shown me mercy?
I am compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. I will not constantly accuse you, nor remain angry forever. I do not punish you for all your sins; I do not deal harshly with you, as you deserve. I am so rich in mercy, and I loved you so much, that even though you were dead because of your sins, I gave you life when I raised Christ from the dead. I saved you, not because of the righteous things you had done, but because of my mercy.

How should your mercy affect my daily life?
Since I chose you to be holy, you must clothe yourself with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for others’ faults and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, I forgave you, so you must forgive others.

What can I pray to thank you for your mercy in my life?
All praise to you, the Father of my Lord Jesus Christ. It is by your great mercy that I have been born again, because you raised Jesus Christ from the dead.

Mercy is unmerited favor. Yet God’s mercy goes a step further. He not only exempts you from the punishment for your sins, he also gives you the undeserved gift of salvation. Even more, God’s mercies never end. It is by his mercy that your very life is sustained. Every breath is a merciful gift from an all-loving Father. Thank God for his mercies (breath in your lungs, safety for today, and salvation for eternity). Then ask him who he wants you to be merciful to this week.
