Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.

How encouraging is the thought of the Redeemer’s never-ceasing intercession for us. When we pray, He pleads for us; and when we are not praying, He is advocating our cause, and by His supplications shielding us from unseen dangers. We little know what we owe to our Saviour’s prayers. When we reach the hilltops of heaven, and look back upon all the way whereby the Lord our God hath led us, how we shall praise Him who, before the eternal throne, has pleaded our cause against our unseen enemies.

Pray About It: Because we’re only human, it’s normal for us to think of God’s presence as something we cultivate in prayer. Like a water faucet that we turn on when we need its use and turn off when finished, so we often go to our time of prayer and turn on God and then turn Him off till next time as we leave our prayer time. But God isn’t that way. He neither sleeps nor slumbers. Nor does Jesus ever stop interceding for us. All last night as you slept, Christ was interceding on your behalf. All of today, long after you’ve left your place of prayer, He will still be thinking of you.
Today, let’s thank God for His ceaseless love and attention to us, even when our thoughts are far from Him.
Whenever God encourages your heart with the promise that in Satan’s sifting your faith will not fail, then take that encouragement and double your joy by using it to strengthen your brothers and sisters.
