The fruit of the Spirit is…temperance.
Galatians 5:22–23 KJV
Christians of strong faith are Christians of much prayer. It is in the dying to self which much prayer implies, in closer union to Jesus, that the spirit of faith will come in power. Faith needs prayer for its full growth.
It is only in a life of temperance and self-denial that there will be the heart or the strength to pray much.
Without voluntary separation even from what is lawful, no one will attain power in prayer.

Pray About It: Anyone can shoot small arrowlike prayers to heaven without much fuss. But to be a faithful pray-er requires death to self—a voluntary separation from what is lawful to us. That TV program that is so enticing or the craft project or the chatty phone call or the business appointment all compete with time for prayer.
Pray first, just as you give the first of your income to the Lord, and then if there’s time left over, pursue your leisure activities. Many good, noble, even profitable things must give way to make time for prayer. The good is always the enemy of the best.
Here again, if we would pray aright, we must look to the Spirit of God to teach us to pray.
