Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plough and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:61-62

GOD’S WORD IS CLEAR: He values dedication and perseverance, as they are part of His own character.

Yet, daily, people are tempted to give up on their ideals —giving up in marriage, in relationships, on a child, on a commitment. People capitulate all the time to Satan’s wily and clever messages encouraging them to compromise —“You can’t expect anyone in this time of the world to be moral. No one else is doing this hard thing you’re doing. You deserve better than this.”

There are so many messages he sends to try and make us want to quit. However, if we persevere and wait on God, we will receive the reward of a holier character and the grace of seeing Him work in our lives.

So, today, if you are weary, discouraged, or downhearted, look up —God sees you, God is at work. Don’t quit before He accomplishes His will. You will be greatly fulfilled if you keep going and wait for God’s grace and for His work in His way at His time. When I look back I see His wisdom and how He was always in control —even when it didn’t seem like He was.

Take some time today to search your heart and ask God to remind you about the commitments you’ve made that He most values. What does He want to encourage you to rededicate yourself to? How has the enemy tried to discourage you and convince you to give up? Determine to listen to God’s voice.
