Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

IF YOU WANT TO TRULY disciple your children, you have to model love yourself. You can’t just say, “Jesus said we are supposed to love one another.” If you want it to truly sink in, you have to do what Jesus did: spend focused time listening to the ones you love; give words of life and build them up; have fun, shared experiences with them; minister to them when they are sick or tired; appreciate their dreams; support and forgive them when they have failed. Then they do not just hear love as a word, but they experience love as a reality.

Similarly, if we want to change our own culture, we can’t just tell people what is right and wrong; they must experience what is right by seeing it in our lives. We show people a realistic picture of marriage and family by inviting them into our home for meals, loving them actively and serving them as a family when they have needs, hosting them on holidays, and sharing Christ with them through our words and cups of cold water.

The role of motherhood is also extremely important in our days, just as it has always been! We must build our family culture in such a way that it builds anchor lines from our children’s hearts to our hearts, giving them a reason to always think of home as the best place to be. Then, we invite others into our home so they, too, will catch the idea of having a strong family culture and seek to build one for themselves. The best way to do both? Model Jesus so those around us can see Him.

Today’s verse is such a powerful statement by Jesus. We know perfection is impossible. But could you make this statement yourself? Can those who watch your life see God in it? What changes might you need to make?
