Mom Heart Moments #39

Whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.

Matthew 10:42

MANY YEARS AGO, when we had just moved to a new city and I was feeling quite alone, I wearily made my way to the local grocery store. When I reached the checkout stand, the very sweet cashier smiled and asked, “How are you today?” as I placed my items on the belt.

When I gave a weak smile and replied, “Fine,” she squinted her eyes and wrinkled her nose as if she didn’t quite believe me and said, “Really? You look like you just need to know someone cares.”

I didn’t know before that moment how close I was to tears! But just her simple kindness brought them spilling over. She gave me a hug, and when I got to the car, it struck me that though she was a checkout clerk, and not a pastor or ministry worker of any sort, she became an angel to me, by just letting me know that someone in the world cared!

All of us can be channels of the Holy Spirit’s love, grace, and encouragement every day. It only takes a few minutes to be an angel-messenger of God’s grace to someone —even to your own children! Just ask to be a vessel, and then initiate with those words that are in your heart, that baked bread, cup of tea, or phone call. I know that these small, loving acts of God’s grace have blessed me so very much and have helped me to keep going. If all of us had a friend intentionally blessing us in some way each week, spurring us on to excellence and faith, we would all be such better warriors in this battle for our children’s souls.

Is there something special you could do today to serve one of your children in a way that would truly bless their heart and help them feel loved?
