Mom Heart Moments #81

O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart.

Psalm 15:1-2

HOW DOES A MOTHER WALK with integrity and work righteousness?

We follow the example of God before us. In Genesis 1, we read that in the beginning, the world was formless, void, and dark. But God is the Creator. It is part of His divine nature to create and bring forth something new. So He, in His goodness, spoke light, beauty, color, form, meaning, and love into the darkness and void.

What is our role, then? It is to follow His example. With His grace in our hearts, we partner with Him. We dispel our own darkness by choosing to walk in the light. We bring the living, resurrection power of Christ into the moments of our lives so that our children can learn how the Christian life is lived by watching us.

In situations when we are unjustly hurt, we choose to forgive and love unconditionally. In situations where we feel abandoned, we choose to believe in God’s goodness and live in hope.

We practice telling the truth. We give back money when someone has inadvertently overpaid us. We ask our children to forgive us when we have wronged them, teaching them humility through a relationship with us. We seek to bow our knee to God’s will, even when it doesn’t seem pleasant, so that they learn how to bow their will to God. We live with the Holy Spirit working visibly through us, producing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

What attitudes are keeping you from becoming a person of excellence? In what way do you need to conform your heart to the image of Christ so that you may reflect righteousness to your children?
