Mom Heart Moments #82

The Mighty One, God, the LORD, has spoken, and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth.

ONE SUMMER, my girls and I decided it was time to take a long-dreamed-of vacation to Prince Edward Island, the setting of the Anne of Green Gables stories. On a quiet, late afternoon a couple of days into the trip, we all agreed we needed a long ramble down the quiet beach.

We scrambled up the last few slippery steps of the sandy slope and turned our eyes to the ocean just in time to witness one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen. The sky was awash in a rainbow of rich rose light with swaths of purple and blue running through it, and the sunlight was turning the edges of the sky gold.

Certainly, this was perfection of beauty if I had ever seen it. The colors softened gradually, melting into muted pinks, light purple, and pastel blues, slowly fading into darkness. We sat in silence, fearing words would break the spell. Finally, after the chill of a sunless sky swept over our shoulders, we began to shiver and reluctantly decided to go home.

Just as we were slipping and sliding down the sandy slopes of the dunes, we turned to glance up at the last light in the sky, and there, to our delight, hanging low on the horizon, was a blazing moon of burnished gold, lighting up the darkening sky so that it was almost as bright as day.

I suddenly felt as if we had been literally immersed in the light and goodness of God. This evening of tangible light, this symphony of beauty, did something to my heart. I felt overcome with His goodness.

Think back to a time you were amazed at the beauty God has created. Let that memory bring light into your own heart, banishing any worry and fear you might be carrying.
