1 Chronicles 28:9-10

Learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. . . . The LORD has chosen you. . . . Be strong, and do the work.

David was giving these specific instructions to his son Solomon before he anointed him as Israel’s next king. You would think the instructions handed down from one king to the next would be about maintaining power, wealth, and property. Yet David’s focus was solely on Solomon’s relationship with the Lord because he knew this was more important than anything else. What a beautiful reminder for us as well. When we seek to know God intimately and serve him with everything we have, the events of our lives work together for his glory and our good.
