God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

The writer of the book of Ecclesiastes is telling his story about struggling to find meaning in life. This verse says that because God placed an eternal soul in every person he created, we long for something more than what this world has to offer. We instinctively know that we were made for an eternal purpose. The beauty we see around us may give us a sense of wonder and satisfaction in the moment, but these feelings point to something even greater and more lasting: our Creator and the eternal home we will one day share with him.
