John 8:12

I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.

Jesus called himself “the light of the world” because life without his presence is lived in darkness. Those who live in darkness can’t see who they truly are and where they are going, and they can’t see others for who they truly are either. Thus, they are unable to see what the point of life actually is. But when Jesus brings his light into our dark hearts, he helps us see so many things—the sin that displeases him, the Good News that transforms us, the divine beauty in the world, the best path to follow. With his light, you never again have to fumble around in this dark world. Are you living in darkness or living in the light of Jesus?
