Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

God promises that he is always ready to help us when we need him. Yet often we look for assistance from everyone else but him. Asking others for help is good; the Bible urges us to seek counsel from wise people. But we should not do so to the neglect of seeking counsel from God. When you find yourself in trouble or faced with a big decision, who initially comes to mind as the one who can best help? From what source do you first seek encouragement? This verse reminds us to go directly to God. He is waiting for you to come to him and is always ready to bestow comfort and divine advice. He offers refuge and gives strength to carry on.
