Zechariah 9:9
Zechariah 9:9
Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt.
Zechariah had just warned foreign cities who were enemies of Judah about an upcoming invasion. But then he told the people of Jerusalem that their city would be protected by a king who was coming soon. This prophecy amazingly details an event that would occur more than five hundred years later: Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, when the people of Judah would acknowledge him as the long-awaited Messiah (Matthew 21:1-11). As you read the Bible and the story of salvation unfolds, watch for how God’s promises are fulfilled and his humble character is manifested.
