Heart Of Worry

Heart of Worry

Worry weighs a person down.

Proverbs 12:25

I feel like a little kid, I thought to myself. It’s just a trip to the dentist. I was very nervous about my dental checkup, mostly because I suspected I had a cavity. No one likes pain, and my checking account couldn’t take a big hit either. I was tempted to fret and fear and even cancel the appointment. But that would just be avoiding the issue and risking my tooth getting even worse.

Lord, I am so anxious right now, I prayed in the waiting room. You tell me that I’m not supposed to worry about anything, and that everything will be used for my good and Your glory. Please help me look at this from Your perspective. Remind me that You are with me and You will take care of me.

Sure enough, I did have a cavity. But I tried to have a good attitude—I didn’t complain about the cost, and I went the extra mile to be kind to the dental staff who were caring for me. Only God knows how He will use a little trial like a cavity in the grand scheme of things, but I do know that He calls me to be obedient in the little things—including not worrying about the details of life.

Worry is one of those things that we’re tempted to downplay because it doesn’t seem to hurt anyone or cause any trouble. Yet Jesus died for all our sins—including worry. When it surfaces, ask God to replace your fear with a deep, abiding trust in Him. Meditate on Scriptures that address your worry triggers, and live in the peace of knowing that our good, wise, infinite God loves you and cares for you. He is with you during difficult times when things may look hopeless.
