A Woman with Faith

Q: Why did a woman touch Jesus’ clothing?

Have you ever attended a big sports event? If you have, you know leaving can be difficult. There are so many people you can get jostled by, tripped over, or knocked into.

The crowd that had gathered to see Jesus might have been like a sports crowd. Among the people was a woman with a medical condition that couldn’t be cured. She felt hopeless until she heard about the man who could heal people.

The woman knew if she could just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she’d be healed. She worked her way through the crowd until she was close enough, and then she reached out and touched the hem of Jesus’ cloak. The woman was instantly healed.

Jesus said, “Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.” Many people were touching Jesus, but only one had touched him with faith enough to be healed.

The woman fell at Jesus’ feet and told him her problem. She hoped Jesus would understand and allow the healing that had taken place. Jesus told her, “Your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”

Touching Jesus’ garment didn’t heal the woman. Her faith in Jesus did. Jesus alone holds the power to heal and do miracles. These still happen today, but only if it’s in God’s will and in his timing.

The woman had enough faith to reach out to Jesus and be healed. Do you have faith that Jesus can help you with your problems? Then reach out to him in prayer. He may not give you an immediate answer, but he may speak to you through his Word or trusted adults in your life. He may open doors for you to find the answers and opportunities you need.
