Saved By Faith

Saved by Faith

Q: What man does this verse speak about? “It was by faith that _____ built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before.”

  • a. Jonah
  • b. Moses
  • c. Noah

Many years after Enoch went to heaven, God saw that the people on earth were getting more and more wicked. He’d created humans to worship him and to walk with him, but that’s not what was happening. Everyone was doing evil, except for one family—the Noah family. Noah, Enoch’s great-grandson, was a light of right living in the darkness of wicked living around him.

God decided to start over with just the Noah family. He decided to flood the whole earth and save Noah and his family. Here’s the thing: It had never rained before, so no one knew that rain could fall from the sky and flood the land.

Because it had never rained before, God explained to Noah how rain would fall from the sky and flood the earth. Then he gave Noah instructions for building an ark. Noah must have had extraordinary faith to believe what God said. But Noah did believe God, and he got to work building the ark that saved his family. (You can read more about that in the January 11–13 devotions.)

It was important that Noah had a faith that allowed him to believe and obey God about something he’d never seen. Noah’s faith led to obedience, which led to salvation for his family.

For You

Noah’s faith allowed him to obey God without asking questions. Do you have the kind of faith that allows you to listen to God prompting you to do things and then do them? If not, ask God to build up your faith, then practice following God in faith each day.
