A Giant Of Faith
A Giant of Faith
Q: Eight verses in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11 talk about what Old Testament man?
- a. Isaac
- b. Abraham
- c. Joseph
There were many men and women in the Bible who had a strong faith in God. Some of them are mentioned in Hebrews 11. Among the men and women listed, there is one who definitely stands out as a giant of faith. There were many circumstances in his life that required faith:
- He packed up and followed his father to a new country.
- After his father died, he journeyed farther without even knowing where God was leading him.
- He believed God would bless him with a son even though he and his wife were long past the age when they’d be able to have a child.
- He believed God’s promise to give him many descendants, even before he had a son to carry on his family line.
- He was willing to offer his only son as a sacrifice to God.
You’ve probably already figured out that the man is Abraham. There were many situations that required Abraham to act in faith, believing God would keep his promises about his plan for Abraham’s life. Because of Abraham’s faith, God was able to bless Abraham with a large family that would play a big part in Jewish history. (You can read more about him in the January 15–21 devotions.)
God still blesses those who step out in faith and follow him even when things seem too painful or impossible to do.
For You
Sometimes we try to put our limitations on God, but he’s above limitations. Don’t be afraid to trust him during difficult or seemingly impossible situations. And don’t be afraid to seek out the counsel of a godly man or woman to help you with hard times.
Answer: b
It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. Hebrews 11:8
