A Needed Text
Dear brothers and sisters, pray for us.
We were taking one of our children back to the doctor. Over the past several months this child’s mental health had been deteriorating, and it was at a point where we didn’t know what else to do. Wanting to protect our child, we told very few people about the struggles we’d been facing, only sharing with a few trusted friends who we knew would be praying for us and our child.
The morning came for the appointment, and I left the house with our youngest to drop her off at my parents’ house. As I walked to my car, I quickly texted Julie to let her know we were on our way and ask if she would please pray.
Within minutes Julie had sent a prayer back to me, through text. It read in part:
Heavenly Father, we thank you ahead of time for the work the Holy Spirit is doing already and will do this morning. Make this morning productive—regardless of what it might look like externally.
We love this child and are fiercely on their side, and we give them to you.
We pray peace for Kendra and Kyle. We pray for these relationships to stretch but not break, that they will snap back into close ties in the not-too-distant future.
We pray for healing, for trauma to be addressed so that healing may commence. We pray for second chances and mercy and grace to pour out in a deluge, that there is nothing that cannot be undone and then redone in a healthier manner.
We pray for anger to be addressed and faced and acknowledged, and that even as the anger is recognized, there is a turning toward you instead of away from you.
We pray for our dear sister in the teenage parenting trenches. Remind her of hope and give her exactly what she needs each day as she navigates the world’s hardest job.
Amen. Amen. Amen. Go with God, friend.
Her words were the healing balm my heart needed right at that moment, and I am forever grateful for her timing. We are encouraged in Scripture to continue to pray for one another, and let’s not forget how important prayer can be in friendship.
