No Small Prayers

God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer.

My parents moved to a larger city when my dad started a new business. My mom, Annie, was excited for my dad but was also a little sad to be leaving the community they’d lived in for several years since they had a wonderful church and good friends that my mom was loath to leave.

An introvert by nature and now an empty nester, my mom wondered if she’d be able to make friends in their new city like she’d had in their previous town. So she decided to pray, even for just one good friend, while telling no one of her desire. The weeks went by, and as they settled into their new home she got a call from a woman named Gail, who’d heard that my mom was a quilter. Gail invited her to a quilt guild, and my mom happily accepted the invitation. Little did she know that Gail would soon become her very best friend.

“It wasn’t hard to get to know Gail,” my mom said. “We both knew we would be good friends right away.”

The two started quilting together and quickly found other interests they both enjoyed, and it wasn’t long before they were getting together with their husbands as well. My mom found friendship, support, and love with Gail, and she is grateful that God answered her simple prayer for a friend.

Do you have a friend you just clicked with right away? Maybe you had a shared interest or passion for a common cause. If you do, thank God for the friendship. If not, pray and ask God for a good friend, because we know that he will listen and pay attention to our prayers. It is not too small of a request to ask God for a good friend, and I believe it’s a prayer he’d love to answer. Once you’ve prayed, keep your eyes open and heart sensitive to who God will bring across your path and be willing to take the initiative to make a new friend today.
