Distractions
Distractions
Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us.
Hebrews 12:1, HCSB
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN a group of people sitting at the same table in a restaurant, and everyone is busily typing away on their smartphones? What’s so important that they’re all practically ignoring each other? Is it possible they’re tweeting or updating their statuses about how they’re out with their friends? Come on. Put the phones down!
Attention spans aren’t what they used to be. Before cable and satellite television, we were stuck with basically three channels. Now, there are hundreds of channels. Don’t like what you see when you land on one? Change the channel. Change it again. And again. Let’s not even begin to talk about the Internet and how it can . . . oops, wait a second, there’s an e-mail coming in!
Life is crazy enough without all these other distractions. You’ve got plenty of family obligations, and your job keeps you busy enough. You’re thankful for your wife, your kids, your job, and everything else, but those relationships and your job require time and care.
As easy as it is to get sidetracked these days, the one constant has to be Jesus. Consider how much time you spend on social media, the Internet, TV, and whatever else you have going, and then think about how much time you spend with Jesus. No matter what else you’ve got on your mind, stay focused on Him.
BOTTOM LINE
Distractions are all around us. Keep them in their rightful place, and focus on your relationship with Jesus.
