God’s Best Commercial

God’s Best Commercial

If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

1 Peter 3:15

FOR A THIRTY-SECOND COMMERCIAL during the 2017 Super Bowl, companies paid as much as $$502 million. That sounds like a lot of money, but advertisers know they’re getting a big bang for their buck. Many people watch the Super Bowl just to see the ads. During normal games, TVs are often muted during commercials; however, fans actually turn up their sets to see Super Bowl advertisements.

Super Bowl ads even have a life beyond the big game. Time magazine, reporting on “the twenty-five most influential Super Bowl ads of all time” identified the 2011 Volkswagen commercial with the little boy dressed as Darth Vader who “started” the car as the “most-shared Super Bowl ad of all time and second most-shared TV commercial ever.”

Companies know the power of a good advertisement. In 2012, a Christian ministry took out a commercial during a playoff game between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots, featuring children reciting John 3:16. But commercials to promote Christianity aren’t limited to the airwaves. God wants you to be a walking commercial for Him. First Peter 3:15 says, “If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” Commercials effectively tell a message in a little bit of time. When people spend time with you, what message are they getting?

BOTTOM LINE

You’re always being watched. Are you a powerful walking commercial for God? What can you do to be more effective?
