Retirement?

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life.

Proverbs 16:31

RETIREMENT: It’s a time in our lives that all of us dream about. We’re going to trade in our work clothes for a comfy Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and sandals, and we’re going to hit the road for a cross-country RV trip. We may drive five miles one day and five hundred the next—it just depends on how we’re feeling!

Isn’t it a blast to daydream about how you’re going to spend your retirement? You’ve worked very hard for all these years, and when the time is right, you’re going to go from employment to enjoyment. Your career may or may not have been fulfilling, and maybe for most of it you were on somebody else’s schedule. No more!

There’s no mention in the Bible of an easy, post-career life completely free of responsibility. When we hit that long-awaited point in our lives, it doesn’t necessarily mean we can do whatever we want, whenever we want, however we want. There’s still work to be done for God’s Kingdom.

You’ve got some years under your belt, and you may have a few gray hairs here and there to prove it. Why not take a young friend from church under your wing and be a mentor? You’re not too old to teach a youth Sunday school class. One thing’s for sure: You’ve got too many gifts to let them waste away in retirement. The Lord will provide all the opportunities you need to continue to contribute.

BOTTOM LINE

You’ve earned a chance to relax a little in your retirement, but God isn’t finished with you yet!
