O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

IF EVER THERE WAS A SINGLE VERSE OF Scripture that lays out a brief summary of how Christians should live their lives, it’s Micah 6:8. These few short phrases contain a blueprint for virtually every conceivable circumstance we could face. Take this verse, memorize it, and most importantly, put it into action.

What does the Lord require of you? First, you’re to do what is right. Maybe there’s a business deal you’ve been mulling over that just doesn’t seem quite fair to the other side. Maybe you got pulled over for speeding, and rather than argue with the officer, you accepted the ticket. It was, after all, your foot on the gas pedal.

What does it mean to love mercy? Mercy is not receiving the judgment we deserve. Mercy is what God shows us every day. So we are to love mercy and show it to others. Maybe your wife wrecked the car. Maybe your son got a bad grade in algebra. You show them mercy because you have been shown mercy by God.

Finally, walk humbly with your God. Everything you’ve ever accomplished has been at God’s good pleasure. On the flip side of that coin, He has carried you through every dark moment you’ve ever experienced. Through the good times and the bad, God has lovingly been there for you. How incredible is that? Really, the only way you can do anything at all is by His grace, so humility is the proper attitude.

Micah 6:8 is a beautiful verse and a great way to live our lives. So do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
