Look Around

As I looked and thought about it, I learned this lesson.

Proverbs 24:32

MANY COACHES LIKE TO use the phrase “teachable moment” for those times when players can learn from their stumbles. Maybe they went one way on the field of play when they should’ve gone the other. When that happens, there’s an opportunity to learn and improve the next time around—to check out the playbook. It’s all there in black and white.

The same thing goes for our lives as Christians. Every day, there are countless teachable moments all around us. Maybe it’s the tone of voice you use with your wife and kids. Maybe it’s the curse word that slips out when you’re frustrated. Maybe it’s making the same mistakes that so many others have made.

The context for today’s verse is a walk past the field of a lazy person, which is “overgrown with nettles” and “covered with weeds” and has walls that “were broken down” (Proverbs 24:30-31). But the lesson to be learned can also apply to many other situations.

See, and take it to heart. Look, and receive instruction!

We have an infinite number of ways to appreciate God and learn from Him. Some lessons are harder to understand and apply to our lives than others. Some might require us to do our homework again until we get it just right. But don’t worry. God’s patience is infinite. He is the ultimate teacher.

Pray for God’s strength to take teachable moments and apply them to your daily walk with Him.
