Of Like Mind

Make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

LARRY COULDN’T WAIT TO get to Sunday school every week. His classmates were all about the same age; most were married and some had kids, just like Larry did. When they were together, everyone laughed and cut up, just like friends do. When it came time for the lesson, everyone had something to share in one way or another. This was Larry’s haven from the storms of life.

But as soon as class was over each week, a change came over Larry. He’d had a few disagreements over the years with others in the church, some more serious than others. He trudged into the sanctuary, not looking forward to the service. He felt guilty for feeling the way he did, but he just couldn’t help himself.

In the end, the reasons for Larry’s discouragement didn’t really matter. It was his heart that had become jaded, regardless of how many disagreements he’d had with other church members and how serious those disagreements had been. Try as he might, he just couldn’t get past all the hurts, the frustrations, the ill-spoken words, and . . . well . . . yes, the injured pride.

Only God can break down the sorts of walls that had built up over the years in Larry’s heart. If you’ve ever been through something like this in the past, or even if you’re going through it now, there is hope. What a joy it would be if Christians could get past their differences and focus on the same goal.

BOTTOM LINE

We know God to be all-powerful, so why not allow Him to break down any walls you may have built up against fellow Christians?
