My Fortress
My Fortress
I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:2, HCSB
YOU’RE TIRED. It seems as if the whole world is closing in on you, and there’s not a thing you can do about it. You barely have enough to cover the bills. The “check engine” light is on in your car. You haven’t been feeling very well. You and your wife had an argument. Your kids are driving you crazy. To make matters worse, a lot of things people say that might help you relax really don’t work. Yoga? C’mon. You’ve got to be kidding. Your body just doesn’t bend that way anymore. The self-help books that made somebody a bazillion dollars all seem to say the same things.
You need help, but you don’t really know where to turn. Consider this. Several times in the Bible, God is referred to as our fortress. We think of a fortress as a source of impregnable protection, of safety and security. No matter what might be taking place outside those walls, we can be at peace within. For us, God is all of those things. Under His care and protection, we can have the ultimate sense of security.
Nowhere does Scripture promise us a carefree life once we become Christians, but what we do have is the ability to endure hardships, because God is with us. He is there. He always has been and always will be with us. Our God is a mighty fortress of comfort and strength.
BOTTOM LINE
God is the ultimate fortress, in whom we can have an everlasting sense of peace and security. Will you place your complete trust in Him today?
