Share Each Other’s Burdens
Share Each Other’s Burdens
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
HAVE YOU EVER GONE THROUGH such a difficult trial that, if not for the help and encouragement of your friends, you’re not quite sure how you would have made it through? The truth is, we need each other. God designed the church to function as a family, and members of a healthy family are there for each other during the tough times.
Hebrews 3:13 tells us we “must warn each other every day, while it is still ‘today,’ so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.” There is a sense in which we are our brother’s keepers. We are called to love and encourage one another daily. No man is an island, especially in the church. So when we see a brother in need, we’re called to step up and help. And when we’re hurting, we need to be humble enough to ask others for help and receive it.
In “sharing each other’s burdens,” we’re told, we “fulfill the law of Christ.” Jesus is our example here. He is the ultimate burden carrier, as He has removed from us the burden of our sins and the burden of perfect obedience to God’s law. He has set us free. But the freedom we have is meant to be used in the service of God and others. That’s actually what true freedom is: the ability to love others as God loves us. And God has given us His Spirit to enable us to be burden carriers for others. By God’s grace, live a life of love.
BOTTOM LINE
We’re called to carry each other’s burdens. That’s not always easy, but following Christ means being willing to make sacrifices for the good of others.
