What is a responsible person like?

God’s Response

Potiphar . . . put Joseph in charge of his entire household and entrusted him with all his business dealings. . . . With Joseph there, he didn’t have a worry in the world. Genesis 39:4, 6

Don’t try to avoid responsibility by saying you didn’t know about it. Proverbs 24:12

Even as a slave, Joseph was put in charge of Potiphar’s entire household. When Joseph was thrown into prison, the prison warden put him in charge of all prisoners. Both Potiphar and the prison warden clearly saw that Joseph was a responsible person. To be responsible, you must be able to discern what needs to be done and then follow through to see that it happens. You can be depended upon to be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there, and to be consistent in word, attitude, and deed. A Christian should be more responsible than most, because he has a higher calling to display godly character traits at work and in relationships (Colossians 3:23-24). Responsibility will open doors of opportunity. How you handle responsibility determines whether or not you will be trusted with more.
