God Never Runs Empty

God Never Runs Empty

In him we live and move and exist.

Acts 17:28

Although more than half of my life is probably over, I had never been to a gas station that didn’t have gas—until recently! When we experienced a fuel shortage in our county, the gas station I frequent was out of gas. How can a gas station be out of gas? I thought they should have changed their sign to No-Gas Station or maybe Ungas. They didn’t even have a fume! My car’s fuel tank was almost on empty, which put my emotional fuel tank in a panic. I was afraid I was going to run out of gas trying to find another station that had some petrol. Thankfully, I didn’t have to drive far to find one that did.

In those few minutes, it was like a lightbulb came on in my brain. God reminded me that it’s impossible for Him to be empty—He is inexhaustible! God, spelled with a capital G—the one God, Creator of all things, and Master of the universe—is never out of little-g gas. Being His child in Christ, I never run out of gasoline either. He pumps His power into all His children through His Holy Spirit.

He fuels life with goodness, grace, and generosity. He replaces our weaknesses with His strength, which is stronger than any difficult set of circumstances we will ever face. It’s only in Him that we can truly live and move and exist—and never be out of gas!

Is it time for a fill-up from the Holy Spirit? He helps us run and not grow weary, thanks to His ultimate premium power (Isaiah 40:31).

Let’s stop running on earthly fumes, and let’s step on the gas pedal of faith together, knowing we have everything in Christ. Right now, let’s pray that the Holy Spirit will energize us.
