Redeeming Your Free Gift
Redeeming Your Free Gift
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Ephesians 2:8-9
Recently I was thrilled when I found a hefty gift certificate that had gone AWOL in the house. It was for a wonderful restaurant Mark and I had not tried, only because we couldn’t find the gift certificate we had stashed away. Dining out is one of my favorite dates with Mark because I love to try new foods that I would never make at home. I also really enjoy how chefs make beautiful presentations with food. I’ll admit that there have been times when my culinary experimentation was followed by a “No, thank you,” when I didn’t like what I ordered. I would then help Mark eat whatever he had ordered. He teasingly reminds me that I was the only girl he ever dated who seemed to always want the last piece of pizza!
Mostly, I enjoy a quiet dinner alone with my husband because I like his company, away from the distractions of phones or the television. And after enjoying a yummy dessert, the real icing on the sweet cake is not having to clean up!
As I held that gift certificate in my hand, I started thinking about our hurting world. Despite all our technological advancements, it seems many people are suffering loneliness and isolation on earth, never redeeming the free gift of salvation in Christ. We need to realize that everyone has been offered this gift. We only need to ask for it by faith.
Create a gift certificate from Jesus made out to you or someone else as a reminder of His free gift of eternal life.
