He’s Got Your Back

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22–23

It wasn’t an especially long flight, but it was a memorable one.

“We are having trouble getting the landing gear up,” the pilot said, “so rather than continue on to Raleigh, we’ll have to turn around and try to land in Chicago.”

Try? That’s a word you never want to hear in midair.

I gulped as I sensed fear spread up and down the aisle. Some passengers began to bow their heads and pray aloud. Others started to cry.

True to form, my husband, Nick, began quietly praying for us—not at all in fear, but calmly and thankfully. Nick committed the pilot, all the passengers, and a safe landing to the Lord. Then he leaned into me and whispered, “We’ll be fine, Chris. He is with us, and He has our backs. You don’t need to be afraid of anything.” With that, Nick squeezed my hand, put his seat back, and closed his eyes. Then, believe it or not, he drifted off to sleep.

That’s the kind of faith I want! Today, if life feels out of control and you’re not sure how things are going to turn out, remind yourself of God’s faithfulness. Even as you adjust to emergencies or “try” to land your plane, trust that He’s got you.

Great is Your faithfulness, God! Thank You for peace as I deal with the unexpected.
