Reframe Your Perspective
Reframe Your Perspective
Give thanks in all circumstances.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Most of us spend a fair amount of time regretting what we don’t like, what we don’t have, and who we are not. On some level, thinking constructively about these things can spur us to action. But mostly, they just bring us down. So instead, try this today: when you find yourself thinking this way, give thanks for what God provides.
Consider this a kind of reframing of your perspective: “God, this is not the job I wanted, but I thank You that I have a job. This is not the house I wanted, but I thank You that I have a roof over my head. This is not the marriage I expected, but I thank You that we are working on it. These are not the ministry results I was praying for, but I thank You for this opportunity to serve. Lord, I want You to hear my heartfelt thanks for what I have, for what You have given me.”
You can do this reframing—and you can start now. Whatever your circumstances, thank God for what you do have. At the same time believe that He—whose plans for you are good—is able and faithful to take you where He wants you to go and to give you what He wants you to have.
Lord, I do have much to be thankful for. Help me choose to see the many ways You are a good, gracious, and generous God.
