Woundedness Redeemed

Woundedness Redeemed

[The LORD] heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Psalm 147:3

Years ago, on a family ski trip, I totally wiped out. I remember being in the air and hearing the awful popping sounds in my knee. I snapped my ACL, tore my MCL, tore my meniscus, and fractured my knees.

When I had surgery on my right knee, the surgeon told me that after the required physical therapy, my right leg would actually be stronger than my left—if I was willing to endure the pain of recovery. He explained that the hard work of returning to normal the knee that had been injured would strengthen the muscles and connective tissue. And he was right.

I believe this same principle holds for our hearts when they are broken. No matter what you’re going through, believe that your wounds can indeed make you stronger.

I believe in every trial there is a gain God wants us to receive. But that perspective requires us to trust Him at levels we might not have before. It requires us to open our hearts to new ways of looking at our circumstances. It requires us to press through the pain knowing an even stronger faith is on the other side.

Thank You, Lord, for healing my broken heart and making me stronger and wiser—about You, about relationships, and about myself. Thank You for bringing good out of every negative I ever encounter.
