The Engines of Community

If you’re building your life on what matters, the engines of your community could also benefit from your involvement.

School boards, housing associations, charitable committees, and government offices—the expansive branches of community in your local town or county—are full of people who are thinking about the bigger picture.

Most of them understand that our society doesn’t just function unaided. It takes people with a concern for local greenways, new traffic lights, commercial improvements, and sensible laws to keep the engines running smoothly.

You don’t necessarily have to be highly educated or skilled to do your part. You simply need to care enough about your community to expand your horizons beyond work, friends, and family.

Local committees and government concerns may have existed beyond your scope in the past. But they do affect your life and the lives of those around you, so they matter. And they need more people who care about what matters to join their ranks.

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good. —Titus 3:1
