On Call Respite
On Call Respite
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
When you visit friends who live far away, you usually have the privilege of enjoying a room they’ve prepared for your comfort and rest. God does the same for you: When you come to him for spiritual refreshment, he welcomes you into a place where you can feel safe and rest quietly. In his presence, the burdens of the world are put into perspective. Today, will you go to the Creator of rest and linger with him?
Bathe Yourself in Love
Write down three areas in which you can practice restraint this week and embrace rest. For example, you could (1) say no to a social engagement, (2) skip an unnecessary errand, or (3) choose not to take work home. Think about how it might feel to refrain from those activities and to rest instead.
