Beautiful Word Devotional #231

If you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.

Numbers 32:23

These are the words of Moses to the tribes of Reuben and Gad. Moses had just charged them with fighting for the promised land with the rest of Israel. Then came today’s verse, which serves as a warning for all of us centuries later: God sees. This truth can be an amazing comfort when we’re walking through a trial, but it can also be rather frightening because God sees us when we are sinning as well.

We cannot pull the wool over God’s eyes. God knows that we can’t keep our sins hidden forever and that our sins will destroy us.

The truth of today’s verse, however, is also good news if you long for justice. You can be reassured that God sees all the evil in the world. Nothing escapes his notice, and he will eventually bring every guilty person to justice. God will see that all wrongs are punished and all acts of kindness are rewarded.

Lord, I praise you that your justice will prevail. Help me to live justly, not in sin, amen.
