Beautiful Word Devotional #288

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Romans 12:2

You’ve heard of swimming like a fish in water? That’s what we are: since we are swimming in the pattern of the world, we have a hard time discerning what it is. Put simply, it’s the ungodly way of life the world advocates with its upside-down values and missing morals.

To be renewed in our minds—to fight this toxic environment—takes action and resolve. We choose to spend time with Jesus in prayer and Bible study. We make worshipping and spending time with fellow believers a priority. As we do these things, God works in our hearts to make us more like Jesus.

Instead of being greedy, for instance, we live with generosity. Instead of lying to get to the top, we tell the truth and entrust our professional path to the Lord. Instead of chasing after bodily perfection, we serve others in the body of Christ. And these are only a few examples of God’s transformational work in our hearts!

Lord, renew my mind, transform my heart, and use me as a light in this dark world, amen.
