He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6

Have you ever been discouraged about your growth as a Christian—or its apparent absence? All of us stumble. When we stand back up, we may take three steps back. We lurch ahead, only to fall flat. We long to do the right thing, but too often we don’t act.

Hear the good news Paul shared above. God had begun doing a good work in the Philippian church, and he promised to complete what he had started.

Let the truth that God finishes what he starts encourage you today. The moment you met him, he began the work of making you more like Jesus. He started softening your heart toward him and others. He began to teach you patience, endurance, and how to find joy in painful circumstances. He sparked and enriched your prayer life.

You may feel like you’re constantly struggling, but believe God’s Word: the Holy Spirit within you is working in you to make you more like Jesus every single day. And he will complete that very good work.

Lord, show me how you’re continuing the work you’ve begun in me, amen.
