Beautiful Word Devotional #329

The LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Psalm 84:11

Look at some of the blessings our gracious God adds to lives of his obedient children as we live, blameless, in Jesus.

First, God is our sun who, like the sun of our solar system, provides warmth, sustenance, and light. Without the sun, the world would freeze, and no living thing would survive. Sun is essential to the growth of food, and the sun’s light enables life as we know it. Similarly, God provides his people with the warmth of his love, the sustenance of his truth, and the light of his presence with us.

Second, God is like a shield that protects a soldier from an attacking enemy’s sword. In the same way, God shields us from the fiery darts of the evil one, from gossip and slander, from the world’s untruth and darkness.

What blessings! God shines on you today, giving light and life, and he will be your shield of protection.

Lord, I praise you for being my Sun and my Shield as well as my Creator, Redeemer, and heavenly Father, amen.
