Beautiful Word Devotional #362

And without faith it is impossible to please God.

Hebrews 11:6

We desperately want to please God, right? So we try to be super-Christians and do mighty acts for him. Or maybe we embark on a self-imposed self-improvement program, hoping our efforts will merit his affection.

None of these efforts please God. Our attempts to earn his approval don’t impress him. Why? Because as we rely on our own strength, we actually demonstrate we can live our lives without him.

What impresses God is your weakness—and not just your weakness, but your choice to turn to him when you’re aware of your weakness. That’s called faith. It’s realizing you cannot do great spiritual acts in your own strength, and instead you fall on your knees and ask God to do what he does best in your weakness.

If you want to please God, simply ask him to intervene in your life wherever you are right now.

Act on your faith by simply talking to God, asking for his strength every moment, and trusting that he will provide.

Lord, thanks that faith isn’t about something I do, but it’s about whom I believe in. And thank you for calling me to believe in you, amen.
