Why is it so hard to apologize sometimes?

A true apology takes genuine humility, and maintaining a humble spirit is one of the greatest struggles, especially for a leader. Apologizing requires you to realize your fault and then admit it to someone else. Leaders are supposed to “get it right,” so it’s tough to admit when you are wrong. It’s often tempting to pretend the offense never happened or try to cover it up or avoid the person you’ve offended. These are signs that your heart is proud and you are unwilling to take responsibility for your actions. When was the last time you apologized to someone under your leadership? Your answer might indicate how humble your heart is. Refusing to apologize can have devastating effects in your life—soured relationships, bitterness, isolation, rage, guilt. But when you offer an apology, you can receive reconciliation, forgiveness, healing, courage, and respect. A sincere apology can only come from a humble heart. When you admit your fault and ask for forgiveness, you will experience a divine moment of God’s healing working in your heart and your relationships.
