Tie A Knot And Hang On

Tie a Knot and Hang On

My soul clings to You;
Your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63:8 nasb

Pause

One of my favorite wall posters in younger years showed a kitten clutching the end of a knotted rope. The text said, “When all else fails, tie a knot and hang on.”

We all reach the end of our rope sooner or later. I reached mine during one whopper of a year. It started in January with leg injuries that left me in a wheelchair until mid-April. Two weeks after I began walking again, my body broke into shingles. I’d barely recovered when my youngest daughter decided to marry within five weeks, so I shifted into full-time planning. My son’s wife delivered a baby prematurely a week after the wedding. Then my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and contracted a blood infection. I tied a big, big faith knot and hung on to the Lord.

To what do you cling when life delivers blow after blow? Do you hang onto something that gives false hope, or do you cling to God and his promises? Anything other than the Lord will let us down, but he holds us securely and keeps us from falling.

Ponder

What or who do you tie your knot to when all else fails?

Pray

Father, I place my hope in you alone. Hold me close as I cling to you.

“The point of wrestling with God is to give you an opportunity to cling to him. God wants you to hang on to him no matter what—and the result will be blessing. ... In that divine wrestling match, you may feel wounded, but you will also receive a blessing you couldn’t have received any other way.”
